Lo!: Monstrorum historia
04/07/13 || gk
This young Australian band managed to turn a few heads with their debut album from a couple of years ago and if anything, this follow up is superior. Lo! mix sludge, chaotic hardcore grooves and an inherent sense of melody to great effect. There’s an aggression here that is tempered by the band’s ability to hit memorable melodies and rock solid, heavy grooves that get stuck in my head for days. If I was being lazy I could say that “Monstrorum historia” sounds like Cable, Converge and early Mastodon in a three way. Honestly though, Lo! are pretty much their own band and while their influences might be easy to spot, the quality of songwriting is pretty good right through this album. Fans of sludge and hardcore should find plenty to like here.
8/10: For genre fans only.
After going thru that crap, you most likely wanna read something way more interesting. You do, admit it.
